What is Astegolimab? Side Effects, Benefits, and Uses.
Astegolimab is a medication that is used to treat asthma. It is a monoclonal antibody, which means it is a type of protein that is designed to target a specific substance in the body. In the case of astegolimab, the substance it targets is a protein called interleukin-5 (IL-5), which is thought to play a role in the development of asthma.
Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition that affects the airways of the lungs. It is characterized by inflammation and narrowing of the airways, which can lead to symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, and difficulty breathing. Asthma is a common condition, affecting millions of people worldwide.
Astegolimab is used to treat severe asthma in adults and adolescents who are at least 12 years old. It is administered via injection and is usually given once every four weeks.
How Effective is Astegolimab?
The effectiveness of astegolimab has been demonstrated in several clinical trials. In one study, people with severe asthma who received astegolimab had a significant reduction in the frequency of asthma attacks compared to those who received a placebo (a treatment with no active ingredient). In another study, people with severe asthma who received astegolimab had a significant improvement in lung function compared to those who received a placebo.
