Tezepelumab is a medication that is used to treat asthma. It is a monoclonal antibody, which means it is a type of protein that is designed to target a specific substance in the body. In the case of tezepelumab, the substance it targets is a protein called thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), which is thought to play a role in the development of asthma.
Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition that affects the airways of the lungs. It is characterized by inflammation and narrowing of the airways, which can lead to symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, and difficulty breathing. Asthma is a common condition, affecting millions of people worldwide.
Tezepelumab is used to treat moderate to severe asthma in adults and adolescents who are at least 12 years old. It is administered via injection and is usually given once every four weeks.
How Effective is Tezepelumab?

Tezepelumab Side Effects
Like all medications, tezepelumab can have side effects. Some of the common side effects of tezepelumab include:
- Injection site reactions (redness, swelling, and pain at the injection site)
- Upper respiratory tract infection (common cold)
- Nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the nasal passages and throat)
- Headache
In most cases, these side effects are mild and resolve on their own within a few days. However, if you experience any of the following side effects while taking tezepelumab, you should contact your healthcare provider immediately:
- Allergic reactions: Tezepelumab can cause allergic reactions in some people. Symptoms of an allergic reaction can include difficulty breathing, hives, rash, itching, and swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat. If you experience any of these symptoms while taking tezepelumab, stop taking the medication and seek medical attention immediately.
- Changes in liver function tests: Tezepelumab can cause changes in liver function tests, which are used to measure the health of the liver. If you experience symptoms such as fatigue, abdominal pain, or yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes while taking tezepelumab, contact your healthcare provider.
- Changes in blood pressure: Tezepelumab can cause changes in blood pressure. If you experience symptoms such as dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting while taking tezepelumab, contact your healthcare provider.
If you are prescribed tezepelumab, be sure to follow the instructions provided by your healthcare provider. Do not take more or less of the medication than directed, and do not take it for a longer period of time than recommended. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, be sure to inform your healthcare provider. Tezepelumab has not been studied in pregnant women, and it is not known if it is safe to use during pregnancy.
